From Our Mayor
A MESSAGE FROM MAYOR BOBBY REYNOLDS
Friends, Neighbors and Visitor's
Welcome to Cave City, Kentucky, the Gateway to Mammoth Cave National Park.
Our City has a rich heritage. A vibrant community was thriving here when the Civil War broke out in the summer of 1861. Because we have strong ties to the history that enveloped our community during the War Between the States, we are very pleased to be able to host our 2nd annual Civil War Reenactment and Relic and Militaria Show at our Cave City Convention Center on May 4-6, 2012.
Kentucky never officially seceded from the Union, but like the entire state, Cave City citizens were divided in their loyalties. Many young men of our area who felt the patriotic need to defend their views joined either the Federal troops or the Confederate Army. The Confederate Orphans Brigade was organized right here in Cave City. The famous Confederate Colonel and later General John Hunt Morgan operated his cavalry in the Cave City area with many farms offering him shelter and supplies.
It was a time when brother often fought brother. Whichever side a family’s sympathies lay, you will find descendants still living here. With that in mind, Cave City is honored to host the Central Kentucky Civil War Relic and Militaria Show and Battle Re-enactment.
So much has changed over the years as Cave City continues to grow. Our homes and businesses are connected around the globe through the World Wide Web (Internet). Many of our businesses and manufacturers in Cave City provide goods and services to the state, nation and the global business communities. We truly are part of the world's economy. But we have our roots grounded in small town pride.
We are proud of Cave City and its place in Kentucky and the World. Our citizens are friendly, hard working folks who embrace the pace and lifestyle Cave City has to offer. Though, I'd say that pace has picked up over the years, we still have a peaceful community which looks after each other in so many special ways. Our spirit thrives in churches that have been part of this city and its citizens for more than a century and a half.
Welcome to a modern and vibrant community who remembers its past and celebrates our future. We are glad you have joined us. We hope you enjoy our hospitality. Whether you are a first time visitor or have been with us before, thanks for joining us as we look back at our Civil War history.
Let me give a very special thanks to all the wonderful community leaders and volunteers who have worked so hard to make our community a great place to live and offer this unique, educational and entertaining event.
Bobby Reynolds
Mayor, City of Cave City
